Is self-styled revolutionary Russell Brand really just a \u2018Brocialist\u2019? Is Lily Allen\u2019s feminist pop-video racist? Is lesbian activist Julie Bindel a \u2018Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist\u2019 Is Respect MP George Galloway a \u2018rape apologist\u2019? Welcome to the world of \u2018intersectionalism\u2019 \u2013 or what we used to call sectarianism. <\/p>\n

\u2018My feminism will be intersectional or it will be bullshit\u2019. This was Flavia Dzodan\u2019s angry challenge to a feminist slogan on a placard on a \u2018slutwalk\u2019 march, \u2018woman is the nigger of the world\u2019. Dzodan did not like the \u2018white feminist\u2019 laying claim to her the oppression suffered by women of colour. \u2018Am I supposed to ignore the violence that ensued in the N* word discussion?\u2019 Dzodan asked: \u2018Am I supposed to overlook its blatant violence in the name of sisterhood?\u2019 <\/p>\n

Dzodan\u2019s meme \u2018intersectional\u2019 was widely taken up amongst radical campaigners and bloggers. Intersectionality seemed to be a way to balance the different claims of oppressed groups. None would be ignored, or folded into the other. Intersectional feminism would not ignore the special problems faced by black women. Nor would anti-racist campaigners ignore sexism. The watchword of intersectionality was that you should \u2018check your privilege\u2019 before making any claims.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

INTERSECTIONAL? OR JUST SECTARIAN? | Mute<\/a><\/p>\n

James Heartfield’s mischaracterization of my work is not the most offensive part of this piece. That’s just a LOL inducing moment. Truly offensive moments include the wilful ignorance regarding the history behind intersectionality (i.e. the works of the actual feminists and womanists\u00a0\u00a0-mostly Black women,\u00a0who actually created and developed the theories, like Patricia Hill-Collins, Kimberl\u00e9 Williams Crenshaw, bell hooks, Gloria Anzaldua, etc etc etc). Another offensive moment here:<\/p>\n

One radical feminist Emma Brandt complained in turn that \u2018liberal feminists \u201cweaponize\u201d trans women against radicals\u2019 \u00a0\u2013 meaning that transsexuals were being used by less resolute feminists to undermine the radical feminists\u2019 authority, which was an interesting counter, but a bridge too far along the intersectionality road.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On second thought, the entire thing is one offensive, mind blowing mansplaining clusterfuck.<\/p>\n
