If I get one more email promoting a seminar about \u201cPersonal Branding<\/em>\u201d, I am going to walk to whichever hellhole you are sending those missives from and rub a towel soaked in my cat\u2019s pee all over your face.<\/p>\n

Because a) people are not \u201cbrands\u201d (unless you meant branding as in \u201ccattle branding\u201d, in which case, no, thanks) and b) part of the dehumanization we face on the internet stems from this idea that brands and corporate identities dominate discourse and are interchangeable. If corporations are people (and we seemed to have accepted such premise) then, of course, people can be corporations as well<\/em>! Except that no, that\u2019s not how it works. And like Sady Doyle pointed in a comment here<\/a>, it\u2019s easy to make a leap from \u201cI hate Ikea\u201d (a brand), to \u201cI hate you\u201d (another perceived brand).<\/p>\n
