Karen Finley – Gringo<\/strong><\/p>\n

I had a short meet-up with a young pop star this evening. \u00a0I had done a bit of work for both her and her father, so it was mostly a courtesy appearance. \u00a0The last time I saw her she was still a child. \u00a0It was odd to see her all tarted up with boobs and all. \u00a0I haven\u2019t really followed her career, but she seems to be doing quite well.<\/p>\n

We chatted for a hot second and she surprised me by asking me if I could recommend some artists for her to listen to. \u00a0She mentioned stuff about wanting to hear more by and about empowered women so she could work it into her music. \u00a0I have no doubt that her aspirations were genuine.<\/p>\n

Then she added, \u201c\u2026you now, like Lady Gaga\u201d.<\/p>\n

She rushed off and got ready for her performance and left me sitting there thinking.<\/p>\n

I left her a flash drive filled with readings of poetry by Bell Hooks, Audre Lorde, as well as the complete works of Karen Finley, Diamanda Galas and Grace Jones.<\/p>\n

I know it\u2019s probably a bit inappropriate, but hey. I was BORN THIS WAY.<\/p>\n

I should have just brought the cupcakes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
