Part of the Post-Trump Europe Series<\/a><\/p>\n

I said in my post opening this series that I would try to cover the geopolitical developments and ideological amalgamations that were likely to follow the US Presidential election. I anticipated that Trump\u2019s coming to power could have ripple effects for the crystallization of \u201cGlobalized White Supremacy\u201d.<\/p>\n

Since there is quite a lot to cover in terms of news and developments, I\u2019ll be brief in terms of analysis. I prefer to reserve more in depth analysis for single topics rather than this cavalcade of links.<\/p>\n

Newswatch<\/h3>\n

1.<\/span> Two elections took place in Europe this weekend: Bulgaria and Moldova.<\/p>\n

I had a Twitter thread<\/a> about the Bulgarian elections where I outlined the geopolitical situation of the country and the political affiliations of Roumen Radev, the candidate that won the elections.<\/p>\n

TL;DR:<\/strong> He is a former member of the Bulgarian military, Socialist, anti immigration, pro Russia and pro Putin and has stated that he wants to work at the European Union to have the sanctions against Russia lifted.<\/p>\n

In Moldova, the winner was Igor Dodon, also a member of Moldova\u2019s Socialist Party and a friend of Putin who has vowed to develop a closer collaboration with Russia.<\/p>\n

At Open Democracy<\/a>, Maxim Edwards has an in-depth analysis of the pre-election climate in the country as well as interviews with voters. This might explain the win not only in Moldova but also perhaps in Bulgaria: \u201cValery [a Dodon supporter] misses the guarantees of the Soviet welfare state\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

2.<\/span> Swedish Nazi group hails Trump in largest demo yet<\/a> \u201can estimated 600 far-right demonstrators marched from the central Kungstr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden park to Mynttorget, the square where Sweden\u2019s parliament is based in historic Gamla Stan<\/em>\u201d. Predictable given how common this has become, they chanted \u201cHang them, hang them<\/em>\u201d when Jewish names were mentioned.<\/p>\n

3.<\/span> The biggest and most powerful Dutch media corporation (Telegraaf Media Groep) publishes rabidly anti Semitic<\/a> \u201canalysis\u201d, including claims that \u201cJews have a monopoly on victimhood\u201d on one of its websites (that can be best described<\/a> as \u201cimagine if a powerful media corporation run 4chan as a news site\u201d).<\/p>\n

1.<\/span> White Supremacist and basic bigot Nigel Farage, who in my intro post I mentioned considered himself \u201ca go between\u201d for US-British relationships, has already been \u201changing out\u201d with his pal this weekend. He has described his meeting with Trump as \u201cvery productive<\/a>\u201d Apparently, they discussed<\/a> \u201cfreedom and winning\u201d (who wins in this meeting of allied racists remains unsaid).<\/p>\n

2.<\/span> Marion Le Pen, niece of French Presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, has apparently accepted an invitation to work with Stephen Bannon, CEO of Trump\u2019s Presidential campaign and newly appointed Strategist<\/a> on Trump\u2019s team.<\/p>\n

A few choice quotes from Marion Le Pen\u2019s profile<\/a> at the \u201cLifestyle Section\u201d of The Telegraph (as an aside, nothing normalizes bigotry more than a Lifestyle section profile):<\/p>\n

I am against gay adoption. I am very attached to the idea that my husband spends time with our daughter and that he fulfils his role<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Her adherence to the traditional family is as solid as her opposition to gay marriage, which she claims could \u201copen the door to polygamy\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Explaining this bizarre notion, she says: \u201cOnce you break away from the natural framework of a man and a woman, you could have other minorities who want their form of love recognised by the state. If you endorse homosexuality [in marriage], why not polygamy?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You are with us and against Islamism, or you are against us and for Islamism\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

3.<\/span> Aforementioned Stephen Bannon, executive chairman of hate site disguised as content Breitbart News, has also announced<\/a> possible \u201cbureaus opening in Paris, Berlin and Cairo where the populist right is on the rise\u201d.<\/p>\n

4.<\/span> Geert Wilders, never one to miss the white supremacist train, gave an interview to Breitbart News<\/a> (of course he did!) praising \u201cthe coming of the second American revolution\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n

1.<\/span> In less glamorous but equally worrying developments, the screencap above was sent to me by @schnickelfritz<\/a> on Twitter. In the post, a 4chan user poses a possible strategy to continue advancing white supremacist candidates in the current cycle of European elections. It could very well be mindless trolling but this is exactly how the right organized its media strategy for the US elections that resulted in Trump\u2019s victory. It is of special interest vis a vis Bannon\u2019s announcement of new international bureaus for Breitbart News.<\/p>\n

2.<\/span> Religious fervor. As seen on Reddit (thanks to Amandine<\/a> for the heads up on Twitter). On the front page of Trump\u2019s subreddit<\/a>, a depiction of Marine Le Pen with Hillary Clinton\u2019s popular hashtag.<\/p>\n
