My mother is a landscape designer who has won international awards for her collection of (self grown) bonsai trees. She has hundreds of them. The house I grew up in one of the Great Buenos Aires towns (it’s the geographical name for anything outside the city center, btw, not that I am calling it “GREAT” in a fit of nationalist pride) is a sub tropical paradise, with wild orchid plants hanging from trees and all kinds of green everywhere. When I moved here the lack of a huge backyard like I was accustomed to was the hardest part to adapt to. I used to live in front of one of the biggest golf courts on my side of the city, and when I opened the window every morning I saw a sea of green.<\/p>\n

Roy (the husband) claims that I have spent the last fifteen years trying to recreate that same feeling indoors. He may have a point. I just got an offer from one of my neighborhood initiatives here in Amsterdam to get a plot of gardening space at the community garden in the Rembrandtpark. It’s called “Eat out of your own garden” and promotes growth of edible plants. It costs 12 euros for the whole span of the season (from Mid April till mid October) plus the cost that you pay for the seeds and plants you may want to put there (which you can buy anywhere, not at a specific place) and if all goes as planned I’ll be doing it. Expect future blogging and photos of the results. I doubt it will be worse than when I was growing artichokes, tomatoes, peppers and strawberries in the terrace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
