Cleveland still reeling after gang rape of girl, 11<\/a><\/p>\n

Not only is the case horrifying, with dozens of suspects being interrogated by police and 17 already charged, but the language of the piece makes me want to scream. The reporter, repeatedly calls it “having sex”, instead of rape, even though an 11 year old cannot have sex. Also, the girl has been removed from her family and placed in foster care in what I suspect is more a move to protect the suspects than the girl herself. Her family had nothing to do with the brutal attack, still, child protective services claim she needs to be kept away from them for her own protection.<\/p>\n

The piece also does the unspeakable: slut shames an 11 year old child:<\/p>\n

James D. Evans III, an attorney who represents three of the defendants, insists: “This is not a case of a child who was enslaved or taken advantage of.”<\/p>\n

Investigators note an 11-year-old can never legally give consent.<\/p>\n

On her Facebook page, the 11-year-old tells whomever she befriends that she’s aware people have probably heard about her, but she doesn’t care what they think.<\/p>\n

“If you dislike me, deal with it,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

Sometimes she comes across like a little girl, such as when she talks of her special talent for making “weird sound effects” and “running in circles” to overcome nervousness.<\/p>\n
