I\u2019m sort of making her do it; reason being that it makes many guests more comfortable to have a list to choose from, rather than feel pressure to \u201cthink up\u201d something on their own. But I get it, trust me, the whole \u201cgimme\u201d thing. It\u2019s loathsome.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s a good way of looking at it – I\u2019m helping people feel not-pressured. Because I definitely prefer when someone goes \u201cHere is my list\u201d or \u201cI\u2019d like cash.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I know there are many places where this is considered tacky, but in The Netherlands, it is extremely common for newly weds to ask for cash. Actually, it is more common to ask for cash (which is done by a culturally acknowledged code of printing a symbol of a tiny envelope at the bottom of the invitations) than it is to ask for presents. Registries are very rare as well.<\/p>\n

So, since by the time we got married we had already been living together for a few years and we had everything we needed, we also asked for cash. Which after the wedding we proceeded to burn in a long ass, extensive honey moon traveling through Europe. Best use of wedding gift ever for us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
