I already posted some audio bits where Glenn Beck equated abortion to slavery<\/a>. That was already the most flawed logic I had seen so far in the pro-life camp. However, yet again, reality does a good job dispelling me of the notion that it cannot get worse. Courtesy of Amendment 62 Arguments Get Stranger and Stranger<\/a>, I just came across this:<\/p>\n

First the Amendment 62 people announced that not giving personhood to eggs was akin to slavery<\/a>.\u00a0 Now, the rhetoric has been upped even higher, as the leader of the movement states that using the phrase “fertilized egg” is as derogatory as a racial slur.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it’s important to note with the term fertilized egg, that’s the same thing as using the N word for an African American,\u201d said [Keith Mason, the President for Personhood U.S.A.] \u201cBecause it’s a dehumanizing term and it’s not based in science. The term would be a zygote, or an embryo, speaking of a unique individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Leaving aside the laughter inducing logic here, I wish someone could explain to me what exactly is derogatory about fertilized egg<\/em>. It is no secret that I am rabidly pro choice, however, let’s entertain the argument from the pro life perspective for a second. Let’s assume there is a valid reason to consider personhood for a fetus (there isn’t, but just for a moment, let’s consider the validity of the argument). Even if we consider a fetus a person, what exactly would be derogatory in the term “fertilized egg”? If “fertilized egg”, a developmental stage is derogatory, what about “baby”? Or “toddler”? What exactly, in a personhood\/ ethics\/ human rights debate makes a naming convention that refers to a stage in cellular division offensive?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
