I said in my post that we all have a &ldquo;blind spot&rdquo; (meaning there are things we are all ignorant about without realizing it). Lo and behold, someone left a comment in that entry:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ruric <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/mediacdn.disqus.com\/1087\/images\/themes\/narcissus\/moderator.png\" class=\"dsq-moderator-star\" title=\"Moderator\" height=\"14\" width=\"15\" \/> <a title=\"Permalink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.redlightpolitics.info\/post\/1137674074\/language-matters#comment-78605629\">56 minutes ago<\/a> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>I&rsquo;m sure you didn&rsquo;t mean it, but isn&rsquo;t &ldquo;blind spot&rdquo; in itself ableist language?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And this is exactly ableist language! Because I equated blindness with ignorance\/ lack of awareness\/ lack of knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>I really appreciate that someone took the time to point it out because yes, it is an ongoing process. We all make efforts but we are not born with infinite awareness.
