Contrary to popular opinion, desire is not neutral. Desire is culturally and historically specific, and because it is directed at racialized bodies (e.g. over-sexualization of \u201cBlack\u201d bodies), it becomes racialized. Moreover, the racialization of desire and the social construction of race went hand in hand; racism is, thus, intimately connected to questions of desire. However, \u2018white amnesia\u2019, as Barnor Hesse writes in White Governmentality, \u201crepresses the historical context of racism because the threat of the \u2018racialised other\u2019 absorbs all attention.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
