There is compelling evidence that immigration detention has a detrimental impact on the mental and physical health of those detained, be they children or adults. Much research has been conducted into the psychosocial impacts of immigration detention on adults. For example, a United States study of 70 detained asylum seekers, published in The Lancet, found that 77 per cent of the group had \u2018clinically signi\ufb01cant symptoms of anxiety,\u2019 86 per cent had depressive symptoms, and 50 per cent displayed symptoms of post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
