Contrary to what you may believe, this is not part of a piece at The Onion. Someone did think that a poem about a “poor youngster” who joined the German SS out of his own volition was suitable to commemorate the end of WWII. That was until\u00a0a group representing Auschwitz survivors said they would boycott the event if the poetry reading went ahead.
