I feel as though at this point it is important to point out what racism actually is. Last night I only acknowledged differences between certain races and pointed out that in the UK the population IS mostly Caucasian, which is a fact. True racism is acknowledging differences but then treating people differently BECAUSE of those differences. When all\u2019s said and done, a difference in race is only like a difference in hair colour, height et cetera and the last time I checked it was perfectly reasonable to point out that the UK\u2019s population is predominantly brunette and there is a large variety of heights.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

See? I keep insisting that the European education system has failed us. I repeat this until I am blue in the face and yet, it is just mostly me barking at the moon. Because truly, most people in Europe have been taught this at school. They have never been exposed to any deeper or more nuanced explanation of what it is and how it plays out. And that is why there is so much\u00a0institutionalized\u00a0racism across the EU. People can\u00a0simultaneously\u00a0participate in this system and be complicit in it, while they can, with a clear conscious, say they are not racist because they, individually, do not discriminate. And the color blindness narrative? All over the place. Ingrained like it is a social pillar and the very foundation of “European\u00a0Enlightenment”.<\/p>\n

Also, the OP was going on about defending the latest Doctor companion (the young, White actress that was picked has elicited some dislike within the fan base). And I am going to say this: I’ve been a Doctor fan for years. It is quite likely one of my top 3 TV shows of all time. Doctor Who is the closest I have to a true and undying fandom. And yet… I cannot bring myself to care about the eleventh doctor, or his companions. I hoped it’d get better after some adjustment period (as it is always the case with each new Doctor) and yet, no… I can’t. I don’t hate any of them, I just lost interest in whatever is happening (with a few very notable exceptions like the Neil Gaiman episode). So, this new companion looks like it’ll do nothing to bring me back from my nostalgia for all the prior Doctors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
