I love Jane Tennison, I wish we could have another DCI like her now on TV.

Then you should definitely consider watching the Danish series The Killing. Sarah Lund is a DCI as well, very different from Tennison but equally thrilling and amazing. And honestly, the entire cast of the series left me pretty speechless in terms of acting quality.

I just saw the first episode of the American remake last night and couldn’t even finish it because some of the characters are portrayed as half the age of the original, which added to the depth of plot and variety of human experiences, you know. Almost everyone on mainstream TV is already amazingly young and beautiful, I was happy to watch a show that had middle aged people (or at least 40+ folks) with age appropriate narratives.

Even the girl who is at the center of the plot was made younger than the original, which I believe will screw the remake up, as now they can add the “potential pedophile ring” twist, which was not possible in the original (the girl was 19 in the Danish version).
