Odd cultural observation
In view of Troy Davis execution a mere two months ago (in spite of a mountain of potential evidence in his favor), the presidential “Turkey Pardon” seems some kind of parody out of the minds of Monty Python on LSD.
I mean, who can look at a head of State being all benevolent towards a turkey, granting it “the right to live” while 8 weeks ago there was a massive outrage for a man whose life was in the hands of the State that denied him the right to live, again, in spite of not only international clamor but potentially life saving evidence. I know the turkey thing is part of a bigger tradition, etc. but not even traditions, no matter how old or established are devoid of social context. It’s just so bizarre.
