Today in things I need to research more

In The Netherlands, if you are a business owner, you can have “golf lessons” deducted from your yearly revenue and, accordingly, not be taxed for them (i.e. business expenses do not count as income). The justification for this is that golf lessons and playing golf afford the business owner networking opportunities and potential business development. However, you cannot deduct any child care costs, even though without child care, people wouldn’t be able to do business to begin with.

I suppose this is yet another reminder of who rules the business world around these parts and whose “networking opportunities” and costs of doing business should be protected. Since, we know, that the ones who, as a matter of majority, require child care in order to do business are mostly women while golf courses are almost in every case a male dominated space.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
