Forefathers of Latin Funk & Hip Hop, Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas – Jaguar House.

Bands like Molotov, Calle 13, Cafe Tacuba and even Reggaeton king Don Omar count them as an early influence and inspiration.

I picked this song not because it’s their best but because it’s mellow enough for a Friday afternoon mini chill moment. Here’s a link to my favorite track from them, Abarajame en la bañera, performing it with Calle 13 (who happen to be my current favorite Latin band). Warning, sound quality is pretty terrible, but well, the video contains two things I love, so it’ll do.

I haven’t been updating here much due to a week long visit of friends from back home with whom I’ve been frantically touring the city and surrounding areas. I will resume regular blogging after the weekend. In the meantime, I leave you with a tune to shake it.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
