kohenari replied to your post: Cognitive dissonance

I wrote a couple of long posts about this yesterday; not sure if you saw them, given the time difference. The first one is here: kohenari.net/post/51… And the second is here: kohenari.net/post/51…

I haven’t caught up with yesterday’s Tumblr because I have emotional troubles dealing with death today (I have to attend a wake in a couple of hours) and because the whole Bin Laden affair makes me very sad in combination with my friend’s sister passing away.

Also, I posted something yesterday and I have spent the whole day thinking of an etiquette question that I have never seen addressed in any book or appropriate source: for those people who know his family, even though he had been barred from even mentioning his name, does one write a letter of condolences? I am sincere in this and wonder what on Earth is the correct way of addressing it? To acknowledge that yes, the guy is dead and we are sorry for their loss? Are we even sorry? And better even: are THEY sorry when they spent the past ten years hiding the fact because they are the polar opposite ideologically and humanly? So many ethical dilemmas…

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
