Race representations in film
Kartina Richardson is doing a series of posts on Race in Film. From the series description:
This series looks at representations of people of color (POC) in films that do not explicitly deal with race. This means that although I love Mr. Tibbs, In the Heat of the Night will not be featured. Instead, we will look at images of POC, references to race, racism, and race relations (positive and negative) that pop up in unexpected places.
I recommend the series to anyone who is interested in turning a critical eye on matters of race that might otherwise be hidden or not apparent at first sight. Kartina has a writing style I find particularly appealing, illuminating these issues while, at the same time, making the stories personal.
For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you. Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
