Have butt, will show ad for cash

I was just reading this article about paying young women to wear pants with KFC branding in their ass. Unfortunate advertising campaigns are nothing new so I won’t even go there. However, here’s what caught my attention: the litany of “Where do I sign up?” comments. I get it. I really do. Heck, if someone had thrown this at me when I was 18 or 20, I would have probably considered it (because a) I have no fashion sense and b) because I was quite alternative and would have probably done it in the equivalent of “ironic hipster” style). So, it’s not that I am surprised people would willingly participate in such initiative. However, I cannot help but wonder how many of the women who would take part in that campaign are also the first ones to cast judgment on strippers, lapdancers and sex workers. I’ve lost count of how many comments I have seen on the same site, implying that the commenter in question would never, ever do something like that because “they have morals” (the implication being that, anyone who trades with their bodies in unapproved ways doesn’t). I also realize most of the potential KFC participants probably do not even notice how similar the tactics are and how both involve using one’s body as an instrument of production.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
