I don’t think it was ableist, but that’s another story. The response however, was panicked (think gay panic). That’s why it was so extreme. That doesn’t mean someone’s racist, but it signals the influence and presence of racism in general.

See, this is where I disagree. Calling someone “crazy” doesn’t signal racism anymore than calling them any other insult. “Crazy” is ableist, but we cannot prove beyond doubt that there was a racist intent behind it. If I called you “crazy”, knowing what you know about me (racially, socially, culturally), would that be your reaction to my words? I think we owe it to everyone to apply the same parameters, when judging intent, that we would wish applied for ourselves. At least until proven wrong.

MizJenkins has made very problematic statements about Latinos. As a Latina myself, do you think it would have been acceptable that I label her “racist” and engage in an ad hominem attack accordingly? Instead, I choose to engage in a debate in an attempt to find and disarm the root cause of the prejudice. I didn’t subscribe to racism what could have easily been explained by other causes. And in the attack towards MorningGloria, I believe that candid approach was missing.
