Sluts aren’t people, they’re just cautionary tales.
I regret that I wasn’t a bigger cautionary tale in my teens!
You know, if I had any photoshop abilities, I would make a weekly Jezebel bingo card. It would include squares for ableist language, casual racism, Asian stereotypes, classist statements (preferably related to fashion), and now we can also add the slut shaming slot.
Once a week, we would canvass the headlines and tick the boxes. Maybe we get lucky and get to fill in two cards in the same week.
I would call such game “Take a dump on feminist struggles while you pretend to be an ally”. The outcome is that we all lose, Gawker Media gets a ton of page views and Nick Denton becomes a millionaire.
Oh wait. All of the above already happened. And we still lost.
