Come and Play
Even though the top of the crop of Amsterdam’s hipster scene will be there, coming from far away lands like the De Pijp borough (a full fifteen minutes cycling to the city center!), I am so tempted to go to this event, organized by art collective Mediamatic.
We’ve put together a collection showcasing the evolution of the console. Our journey starts in the seventies, when the very first Pong console was released. The eighties brought us the MB Vectrex and Colecovision, and we continue on through the nineties with consoles such as the SNK Neo Geo and the classic Nintendo SNES. You can play games like Golden Axe Warrior, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat or Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, just to name a few. We settle down in the present with Sony’s Playstation 3, which has been updated with the latest firmware. In combination with our 55 inch screen, it’s the ideal console to play 3D games on. Marvel at the great designs and vintage games, but most of all: have fun playing them.
For the hipsters this might be an ironic evening with vintage gaming. For me, THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD, BITCHES!
For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you. Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
