Creepy phone is creepy
In my home office space, right next to my desk, there is a desk that my husband uses. He has a phone there which is connected to a server, etc, because he uses it as testing ground for VoIP applications. I sometimes use this phone because calling any landline in The Netherlands is free due to some plan/ arrangement his company has with the service provider.
Now, here is the creepy thing about this phone: when you approach it, it has a sensor that notices a presence and the screen changes from some generic photo display to a menu with phone numbers and other functions. Every time I approach it, for a quick second, I am terrified that this thing has become sentient and is launching an attack against me. In my nightmares, the singularity takes the shape of a million phones that turn against us and force us to talk into them in spite of our hatred for this means of communication.
For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you. Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
