Yeah, rant mode ON (again, for the nth time today).
I’ve encountered many a woman who would tell me “I am not a feminist”. These have never been women who had an issue with the problematic aspects of feminism (issues I very much share, like the alienation of WOC or trans* folks, to name just a couple). No, these were the women who would say stuff like “Of course I believe in equality, but I am feminine, not a feminist”. When that happened, I used to just shake my head and nod and usually walk away.
NO MORE.
From now on, I plea to remind these “I am not a feminist” types that most of our rights are under attack. Rights that many actually gave their lives for. If now, given this particular political landscape, there are still women who see no point in vocally acknowledging the work of those who came before us, then I guess they will hear from me. And as you all know, I do not lack in words.
