I certainly wasn’t accusing you of that! Your analysis is always very nuanced and I usually enjoy reading it, but yeah, I’m very interested in seeing more media that you approve of or think is accurate. I think that can be as important as pointed criticism.
I don’t focus on the good because I only have so much time to devote to blogging. Really, there are only so many hours per day I can devote to (unpaid) media analysis. Between the stuff I put out here in this Tumblr, what I write at least weekly for Tiger Beatdown, the paid gigs for other outlets and my paying customers for marketing work, there are only so many free hours I can spend looking for “good stuff”.
So, in the end, I highlight the stuff we need to either improve or be wary of. There are tons of places that link to good stuff. There aren’t that many that look at politics with an independent intention (notice I said “intention”, not that I always succeed) and say “This is fucked up, we need to do better”.
Also, I really dislike this “look at the bright side of life” notion (not that you are suggesting that, I am only pointing out in general). Because no, I want to look at the dirt, the debris, the fuck ups *I* am also part of and that I am complicit in, because unless I acknowledge my part (and everyone else’s) in this mess, we won’t realize the extent of the damage.
For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you. Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
