Black Face Season is officially in full swing in The Netherlands. This is the time of the year when my mood alternates between a deep desire to cry out of frustration, resentful resignation and plain old rage because any attempt at explaining the many ways this is wrong are met with irate responses and cries of “TRADITION! YOU WANT TO RUIN CHRISTMAS FOR EVERYONE!” and the inevitable, always underlaying last resort: “if you don’t like it, go back to your country!”.
This year someone has even started a Tumblr to make a clear and concise statement against this phenomenon (for the record, it is not mine and I do not know the fine people behind this project, but I fully endorse it, nonetheless).
If you feel your day is missing some outrage and would like to remedy that, pursue some more photos of this “totally innocent Dutch tradition”.
