At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the Republican leadership attempts to return us to Athenian-style democracy wherein only the wealthy, land-owning white males count.
When do you think the poor can start chanting “No taxation without representation”? Because right at this moment, with so many initiatives that seem to target them specifically, even though they are supposedly represented by their democratically elected politicians, it seems nobody is really having their best interest in mind. Would it ever be legitimate for a group that is systematically oppressed in a democratic state to claim that they lack representation to defend their interests?
