My name is Queen Jade. I am an award-winning indie filmmaker who happens to be deaf. I am the FIRST Jamaican-American Deaf filmmaker, a pioneer in my own right. I have been producing and writing films for over 20 years. I am also a visionary and an activist. I believe in social change and social justice. I believe in promoting, spreading and increasing awareness about the lack of Deaf African-American actors cast in roles in the mainstream movie industry and in television. What I have come to notice is that we have a huge lack of representation of BLACK DEAF CULTURE who are American Sign Language (ASL) users in FILM & TV. We especially lack representation addressing issues regarding diversity, intersectionalities and Deaf People of Color. We all have stories to share, so many! And we need your help to tell our stories.
Please check out Queen Jade’s Kickstarter and, if it is possible, help her out complete her film. Her goal is to bring the rough cut of her film to Sundance Film Festival and submit it to other international and domestic festivals for next year’s screenings. She will only be able to do that if she raises the funds to make it happen. Making a film is a costly endeavour that not only requires knowledge and expertise but also the use of expensive equipment to shoot and edit.
There are two weeks left for the campaign and, at the link there are clips of the film and a lot of further info. Check it out and, if possible, help with a donation. If not, help spread the word. The more people who know about the project, the better chances for Queen Jade to complete her fundraising.
For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you. Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
