Study: Men Don’t Notice If Women Wear High Heels
Researchers at Northumbria University have found that men cannot tell whether women are wearing high heels when they walk. The study is part of a larger investigation in evolutionary psychology, examining the signals men and women send when they walk or dance.
Why focus on heels? The researchers wanted to know whether the changed posture that comes with high heels — longer legs, accentuated rear and tilted torso — get noticed by men. Turns out, not so much.
Endearing study, but I call shenanigans, at least in terms of how women are evaluated while searching for a job, during work related performance, etc. It might be true that men do not notice heels in a casual environment, but if my decades long personal experience has any value (and I would dare say it probably mimics the experience of thousands other women out there), in some environments, the lack of heels will be equated to a “lack of professional appearance”.
For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone.
