uncdan replied to your post: I’ve also been horrified

I’ve always had the impression that Europe has an important difference from America: that Europe is old, and each country has a strong sense of cultural identity. It seems therefore harder for them to accept dramatic cultural change.

I wrote this four months ago. It is by no means complete or in depth, however, it contains many relevant links about the systematic need to portray different groups of people as “Other” in Dutch society, starting with the Indonesians in the late 40s. So, it might be harder for Europeans to accept cultural change, but I’d say they’ve had a significant amount of time to do so since WWII, no?

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
