The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has just compiled census and survey data and put together a series of very interesting infographs about the position of American women in the workforce (link goes to PDF of the whole report).

And finally, the pay gap between men and women in a selection of occupations. Only in the top three in the graph women outearn men. Arguably, these are mostly non career occupations and, as such, low wage jobs:
