Badly Named Blogs

I love BrokeAss Gourmet, really, I do. I have it on my RSS feed and check it at least, once a week. Their recipes are great, not too complicated and generally, tasty. However, the blog’s tagline cracks me up:

The premier food, wine and lifestyle blog for people who want to live the high life on the cheap.

Currently on the front page:

  • Two (TWO!) sandwiches: Total Cost of Ingredients $15.50
  • Seared Scallops for two (again TWO people!): Total Cost of Ingredients $15.50
  • Spicy Carrot Soup (serves 4): Total Cost of Ingredients $13

I could go on, but I want to scream: WHAT EXACTLY IN ANY OF THE FEATURED RECIPES IS CHEAP?! What? Where? In what parallel universe are two sandwiches that cost 15 bucks “cheap”? And the scallops? Once you are done eating your almost 8 bucks per person “meal”, you’ll still be hungry, because a quarter of a pound of scallops does not a meal make.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
