Crime Scene TV shows and gender

After seeing this week’s episode of Criminal Minds I wish I had the time and resources to run a simple statistic: how many femicides does TV feature per week between all CSI franchises, Criminal Minds and its spin off, Criminal Intent?

I cannot be “seeing things” where there are none, can I? Because I swear that it seems that week after week I only come across women murdered in the most gruesome manners, often times after being assaulted and subject to related violence. And I do wonder how these images influence us and our culture because after 10+ seasons of these shows in the air, obviously with enough ratings to stay on the program grids, I am surprised we do not have statistics of these depictions yet.

As much as I love a good thriller I am done seeing women murdered on screen as a weekly plot device.
