From the Daily Kos’ investigation of “Persona Management Software”, an application that allows the creation of Sock Puppets (online identities used for purposes of deception within an online community). The above is a US Government solicitation for the purchase of this software.

“Sock Puppets” are used to disrupt dialog in online communities and that a democratic government is seeking to purchase software that would allow 50 users to manage ten fake identities each is quite worrying, in terms of the potential to obstruct and damage genuine attempts at community organization and dissent.
