From the soundtrack of the film Amores Perros: Stop Muerte, Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas

THEY ARE GETTING BACK TOGETHER!! And planning a world tour for 2012! That might come close to my current residence! Because, you see, before there was Calle 13 or Molotov or even Daddy Yankee (I am a big fan of the first two while I sneer at the mere mention of Daddy Yankee, even though he quotes them as his inspiration), there was Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas, who many credit as one of the pioneer bands of Latin American Funk. Since their split in 2001 they only got together once, in 2008, invited by Calle 13 to play alongside them in the Vive Latino Festival in Buenos Aires.

If I get to see them live again, I might implode from happiness.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
