Hai! I’m the kyriarchy infiltrating your feminism!

I sometimes keep track of the hashtag #feminism on Twitter. It’s easy to do so on Tweetdeck, which allows me to keep those columns on the side without having to look at them at all if I don’t feel up to it. Today, for the first time, I noticed there was a “sponsored” tweet at the top of the column. “Sponsored” or “Promoted” tweets are paid for. It’s how Twitter makes money, actually. And this one made me laugh out loud because it was paid for by no other than the World Bank! Now they are trying to promote “feminism!” and “gender equality!”, when a mere ten years ago, they were all over Latin America (among other places, I only speak about this one region because I’ve seen it first hand) demanding and stomping around for the implementation of some brutal economic measures that led to unspeakable levels of inequality.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
