Excellent commentary! There are very few things more frustrating than being constantly told that my choice of employment automatically makes me a victim. It shows a fundamental lack of respect for sex workers’ ownership of our experiences.

Precisely! All it takes is one experience, from one sex worker to completely debunk these universal truths that the likes of MacKinnon like to throw around.

If you are a prominent academic (and she is one, considered an authority in many circles), you should be held to scientific standards and the scientific method. This kind of subjective statements, along the lines of “Nobody likes/ does X” are oppressive and completely negate the lives of thousands (if not millions!) of people everywhere.

It is because of people like her that I understand so many women who refuse to identify as feminists.
