I know this might come off looking for a simplistic answer but can you describe the Falkland islands debacle? I know why the war happened but what do the people there think? Do they like being considered “British territory” when half the people on mainland won’t be able to point the islands out. Or Argentina? What about self-determination? How did Britain come to rule it?

Simplistic answer? No, not at all. I would say you are looking for an impossible answer. Or better said, one that can be found in books, enciclopedias and international treaties. It would take me in excess of 5000 words to just begin to answer this. And you know, if I was willing to do that, I’d be negotiating a book contract rather than creating the longest Tumblr post ever.

If you are interested, you can start reading where everyone starts: Wikipedia. And then make sure to follow the hundreds of footnotes and read those as well. If you’d like a more complete version of events, I’d also suggest you start learning Spanish so that you can trace the treaties from the 16th century about the Islands’ initial colonization and contemporary reports in Spanish language media. French might also help as they also laid claims to them around the 17th century.
