I wanted to be Tura Satana

I see many people reblogging the post about Tura Satana’s life, but I haven’t seen her obituary posted. She passed away on February 4th, last week.

I must confess, I teared up a bit when I read it a couple of days ago, because ever since I discovered her, in Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, I wanted to look like her, to be as kick ass and fierce. Eh, what can I say? I was a very young thing. But then I read about her life, much later, and I learned to admire the woman, love her not just as a pop culture icon (which she was), but as a woman who overcame some horrible circumstances in her life.

So, RIP, Tura Satana. I hope there is a heaven populated by fast cars, leather boots and sexy vixens like you. You gave 17 year old me the kind of beauty I had never seen before. And then, you showed an incredible strength of character. I will be forever grateful for it.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
