ZOINKS!!! Good to know. In college I was sooooooooo tempted to go for that Japanese-ion-straightening-whatever-shit (because I was still walking around like Chaka Khan done it and ran) but now I’m glad I stopped and thought “What if I hate my hair even more later???”

I guess I’ll continue to let my curly hair do what it do.

Every time I go to the salon they try to sell me on a Brazilian Blowout. I’m always tempted, but it’s $300+ and I don’t believe them when they say there’s no formaldehyde.

I posted yesterday a photo of my hair so I don’t think I need to elaborate on how many times the Brazilian was offered to me while still living back home (and every time I go to a salon while visiting). In Argentina that stuff is not just popular, it’s EVERYWHERE. And they still do the one with formaldehyde. I have said no every time because I know several people who had similar experiences to the OP. Something in the treatment is just not right. Or at least, it doesn’t react well on everyone, like its supposed to be.

I used to straighten my hair, relax it, etc with all kinds of chemicals. A few years ago I just had enough because it was futile. After a mere week, the curls would be back in full force, with the added misery of chemically induced freeze.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
