Kimchi

Looks legit, but I remember watching an episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, where he went to South Korea and they were making kimchi, putting it in large clay pots and burying it for weeks/months. Do you have clay pots?

Negative. Only tupperware or I could buy glass jars this weekend.

Ok, this is so second hand, but I lived with a Korean family for a while and they never stored their kimchi in tupperware because the smell would stay, forever. So maybe tupperware only if you never wanted to use them for anything but kimchi? Maybe.

Makes sense. I do use my tupperwares for other purposes so this is def out of the question.

What I learned from one of my girlfriends from Seoul (who made a film about it) is that there are quite a few varieties (regional and seasonal), which involve a wide array of ingredients, so no one “real deal.” Plastic is not recommended.

Seems to be the general consensus. No tupperware. Which makes sense, considering I remember my Serbian grandfather used to make sauerkraut from scratch and he only stored it in glass. Probably for the same reason.

Oooh, I can help with this! My mother makes the *best* kimchi. I’m going to call her and then I’ll let you know what she says.

Aww thanks a bunch! But I would hate to inconvinience you with this. If you talk to your mother, ask; but by no means should you call only for this.

In any case, I do appreciate the comments because the Tupperware smell is absolutely not a desirable outcome.
