One of the winners (by popular vote) of Mattel’s Dolls of the World: Dutch Barbie.

According to this Barbie’s description, she wears a traditional blue dress  and striped apron with golden trim,  braids, stockings and “wooden” clogs. Includes “passport,” country stickers.

In this series, Mattel seems very keen on promoting the fact that all the Barbies have a passport to uphold their national identity. I checked all the others and indeed, they come with their respective country’s document. Which, you know, it’s one of the most insidious types of ideological indoctrination for children: teach them that only those who have a valid passport can be considered “of the land”.

And don’t even get me started on the fact that all the Latin American Barbies are in different shades of blond and very light skinned.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone.
