Social interactions

Today is elections day here in The Netherlands (yeah, most people who read my rants have been made aware of this). Since my partner is one of the campaign managers for D66, I am supposed to go watch the vote counting tonight with the candidates and other campaigners.

However, I dread to meet smug politician that polices my wrong use of language. I won’t be able to shut up this time if he so much as says one word to me.

This is one of those occasions when I wish there was a device that hasn’t yet been invented: the social interactions panic button. It would be really simple to use. You (as the socially irresponsible person), hold the one half of the device that is equipped with a red button. When you find yourself in a situation that requires rescuing, you press it several times. Your trusted friend/companion/partner is in possession of the other half. When you press the panic button, the device sends a series of mini electroshocks to your trusted companion’s leg, illustrating the urgency of the situation and highlighting the need for prompt action and intervention.

I would expect my partner to wear such device and act accordingly when I am about to lose my cool in front of someone.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
