When AlterNet is painfully classist

I love many of the stories posted at AlterNet. They usually shed light on issues not covered by mainstream media and their coverage of topics like racism in the Tea Party is consistently brilliant. But then they go and post a piece called 6 Revolting Breakfasts That Might Just Kill You Before Lunch and I get really upset. Why the need to call someone’s food choices “revolting”? Why the disparaging title? There are many things I would never eat myself (because of health reasons or just personal taste), but labeling other people’s foods “revolting”, especially in the context of very unhealthy options is classist and reeks of the snobbery that I thought AlterNet was above.

For the past decade and a half I have been making all my content available for free (and never behind a paywall) as an ongoing practice of ephemeral publishing. This site is no exception. If you wish to help offset my labor costs, you can donate on Paypal or you can subscribe to Patreon where I will not be putting my posts behind a lock but you'd be helping me continue making this work available for everyone. Thank you.  Follow me on Twitter for new post updates.
