When I write about issues of racism, misogyny, colonialism, just general social inequalities and -isms, I am always left scratching my head when, invariably, I am told “You should educate yourself! You have no idea what you are talking about” by a member of the dominant culture I am seeking to dismantle.

What makes them believe that I haven’t done exactly that? What leads to believe that my opinions are not supported by some kind of data or, at least my own experience? The mind boggles…
